  • Approaching Yoga Practice through the lens of Somatic Principles, Biomechanics and Embodied Connection with Elena Constantinides

    2day workshop

    20-21 December (Saturday - Sunday),

    15:00-18:00

The workshop is an Immersion in Somatic practices and biomechanic principles that can support our yoga practice through the blueprint of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga as a foundation, a guideline to how we approach our asana practice, but relevant and applicable to all yoga styles. It’s open to all levels

In this workshop, we’ll explore Ashtanga Yoga through a fresh, grounded lens—one that honors the tradition while integrating modern principles of biomechanics and somatic awareness. Our focus is to deepen the quality of your practice by understanding how the body actually moves, adapts, and communicates.

Through a combination of guided practice, anatomical clarity, and experiential movement exercises, you’ll learn to sense your body from the inside out. We’ll look at the mechanics behind key postures, transitions, and patterns of support, and then soften those concepts through somatic principles that encourage listening rather than forcing.

    Together, we will:

Investigate functional alignment and how it supports strength, joint integrity, and freedom of movement.

Understand natural movement pathways that make postures more sustainable and personal to your body.

Develop somatic sensitivity, learning to feel subtle shifts in breath, weight, and tension.

Repattern habitual movement that may be limiting your practice or creating strain.

Rediscover the internal rhythms of Ashtanga—breath, bandha, and drishti—through a more embodied, intuitive approach.

This workshop is not about achieving more advanced shapes; it’s about cultivating a deeper relationship with your practice and yourself. By blending the structure of the Ashtanga method with the fluid intelligence of the body, we create space for movement that is strong, mindful, and compassionately aware.

Whether you’re new to Ashtanga or a long-time practitioner, you’ll leave with practical tools, clearer body intelligence, and a renewed sense of connection to your practice.

For many of us, yoga is deeply personal. We come to the mat to breathe deeper, move more freely, and reconnect with ourselves. The ancient teachings remind us that true practice is cultivated over time, with enthusiasm and reverence. When we return to these principles, we can reflect on how our practice has unfolded, with patience, awareness, and heart.

Scott will draw on his 20 years of experience teaching Mysore style Ashtanga Yoga and Mindfulness to shine a light on your yoga practice and help you discover something fresh, new and inviting…

    The Immersion Includes:

The Ground of Faith: Discovering Shraddhā in Practice and Life

Where trust becomes the doorway to transformation.

At the heart of every yoga journey lies Śraddhā, a quiet, lived trust.
It’s a faith in ourselves that arises not from ideas, but from experience.

In this philosophy workshop, we explore Śraddhā as the first spark of inner awakening, how it unfolds through our practice, and how it holds us when things feel uncertain.
Through philosophical reflection, dialogue, and gentle embodied inquiry, we ask:

What does faith really mean in the context of yoga?

How does it grow and mature through practice?

How can we nurture Śraddhā in the midst of modern life?

This session is an invitation to remember that practice begins, and continues, with trust: in ourselves, in the process, and in the unfolding of life itself.

    13:30 - 15:30 TECHNIQUE

FOLLOWING THE PATH OF THE BREATH

Practicing Ashtanga with a new lens…

In this workshop we will engage with how we approach the Ashtanga yoga practice itself, how we meet the complexities of breath and movement and how becoming more present plays out in deepening the awareness of ourselves through a physical practice.

We will play with breathing technique, chanting, mindfulness and movement awareness noticing the constant and ongoing interplay between these reference points.

The Fire of Energy: Awakening Virya Through Practice

Where effort becomes devotion, and movement becomes meaning.

Vīrya is the energy that sustains us, the courageous vitality that keeps us steady in our practice and alive in our lives.
It is not just effort, but the heart’s willingness to engage, to persevere, to care deeply.

In this workshop, we explore the teachings of Vīrya from both yogic and Buddhist perspectives, how energy can be balanced, cultivated, and transformed.
We reflect together on questions like:

How do we stay inspired when the path feels hard?

What is the difference between striving and genuine effort?

How can our energy become an expression of love and clarity?

This is a space to rediscover your own inner fire, not as something to control, but as something to align with.

    13:30 - 15:30 TECHNIQUE

Helpful Hip Movements of the Primary Series

The Primary Series is, at its core, an exploration of the body’s patterns. Among these, one of the most fundamental is the dynamic relationship between the hips and the flow of the asanas. When practicing with mindful awareness, we can uncover how the hip joint creates space and fluidity within the series, helping us move beyond the fixation on individual postures and into a deeper connection with the practice as a whole.

In this workshop, we will trace the journey of the hips through the Primary Series, from the asymmetrical poses of the first half to the symmetrical postures of the second half. Beginning with a short mindfulness and breathing practice this workshop will bring fresh insights and practical tools to create space and mobility in your practice, all while ensuring safety and vitality in the body.

This workshop is open to all levels of curious yoga practitioners.

    07:00–11:00 Meditation & Pranayama + Mysore

    12:30–13:30 PHILOSOPHY

The Practice of Remembering: Living Mindfully with Smṛti

How awareness returns us, again and again, to what matters most.

Smṛti means “to remember” but not memory in the usual sense.
It is the presence that remembers the breath, the body, and the truth of each moment.
It’s what keeps practice alive, long after we have rolled up our yoga mat.

In this workshop, we explore Smṛti as the heart of mindfulness, the way awareness gathers and returns. We trace how it deepens through asana, meditation, and daily life, and how it helps us live with clarity and compassion.

Through reflection, discussion, and meditative inquiry, we explore:

How does Smṛti awaken in practice and daily life?

How can we work skillfully with distraction and forgetfulness?

What happens when awareness itself becomes our teacher?

This is an invitation to slow down, to remember, and to reconnect with the simple truth of being here.

    13:30 - 15:30 TECHNIQUE

Finding a Spacious Spine in the Primary and Intermediate Series

The Primary and Intermediate Series offer us profound opportunities to explore the subtleties of spinal movement. With sensitivity, insight, and awareness, we can observe how the energy of the spine evolves as we move through the sequences.

Building on the work from the first workshop, this session will focus on cultivating a deeper awareness of the spine's role in both the Primary and Intermediate Series. Beginning with a short mindfulness and breathing practice we will explore how spinal movement develops in relation to the breath, connecting postures from the second half of the Primary Series to poses throughout Intermediate. We will reveal the continuity and intelligence of the practice.

Yoga Bhāvanā: The Art of Cultivation

Yoga Bhāvanā is an invitation to approach Yoga as a Journey of Becoming. By avoiding the implication that our practice has an end-point, it inspires a commitment to the path of yoga itself.

In her teaching, Kia weaves Aṣṭāṅga Yoga with classical Prāṇayāma and Buddha Dharma into an integrated, embodied approach to practice. During the weekend we will build powerful tools and valuable resources, allowing us to grow our practice as a path to wholeness, compassion and being of benefit to the world.

“Bhāvana or The Art of Cultivation, is not another self-improvement project that places our happiness in some unspecified future. These teachings point us directly to the resources available to us in this moment. We have all we need right here to take the next step, and see meaningful change.” – Kia Naddermier

We will approach these transformative teachings with an open mindset, enabling us to inform and inspire our practice regardless of current experience. This workshop welcomes all interested practitioners and teachers

    WORKSHOP PROGRAM:

Prāṇa Bhāvanā – The Cultivation of Breath and Wisdom of Heart

    Friday Evening, Saturday Afternoon, 2hrs

Dedicated to the practices of Prānayāma as well as reflections around the Buddha Dharma – these lovingly crafted sessions establish a home ground within our subtle body from where transformation can take place. New students are mindfully introduced to classical Prānayāma in the lineage of Kaivalyadham, whilst those with more experience refine and expand their practice and understanding.

Āsana Bhāvanā – An Embodied Approach to Aṣṭāṅga Yoga

    Saturday, Sunday morning, 3hrs

In these dynamic practice sessions, we deepen our understanding of Aṣṭāṅga Yoga as path to insight, inviting us to illuminate our heart through the intelligence of our body. You will be introduced to Kāya Bhāvanā, Kia’s unique Somatic Preparatory Sequences, which offer a deeply healing and transformative ground for practice. We move through key elements of the series with an explorative mindset, looking at common physical patterns and energetic actions to help cultivate an attuned practice rooted in yogic principles. These comprehensive classes will open up new dimensions that will continue to inform your practice long after the workshop concludes.

    Centring and Satsaṅg

    Sunday afternoon, 2hrs

This last afternoon session of our workshop, we gather around a centring reflection as well as offer space for Satsaṅg – discussion and inquiries around the practices and teachings of yoga. What happens now? How can we expand the teachings from the weekend into our daily life.
